Libya Chairs Emergency Meeting of the Arab Group with China to Discuss Maritime Security

New York, NY — May 14, 2026

At the headquarters of its Permanent Mission in New York, Libya chaired an emergency meeting of the Arab Group at the level of Permanent Representatives to discuss the security of navigation with China.

The meeting was held on Thursday evening under the chairmanship of H.E. Ambassador Taher El-Sonni, Permanent Representative of the State of Libya to the United Nations, with the participation of the Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China and the Arab Permanent Delegations.

The meeting focused on consultations regarding the Security Council’s handling of developments affecting regional security, as well as the latest updates on ongoing negotiations regarding the draft resolution introduced in this regard.
